New Puppy Questionnaire

You're choosing a puppy. The breeder is choosing a home.

Every Pawrade breeder reviews these answers before a puppy is reserved. It's the same care we put into screening breeders and examining puppies, applied to where the puppy is going. Five minutes, once, for any puppy you ask about.

About youStep 1 of 4
Step 1 of 4
Step 1 · About you

How the breeder reaches you.

The breeder sees a name and a way to say hello, nothing more from this step.
TRUST: The breeder reviews your answers to make sure their puppy is going to a great home.
Welcome back. We saved where you left off.
Where the breeder's reply and your PetPay updates arrive.
Phone, text or email, you pick how we reach you.
Step 2 · Your home

Where the puppy will live.

The breeder sees the space a puppy is growing into, and can flag a breed that won't suit it.
Property typeSome breeds thrive in apartments; some need room to run.

Please choose a property type.
Do you have a yard?
Not required. Plenty of happy Pawrade dogs live in apartments.
Please answer yes or no.
Helps the breeder picture the daily rhythm. Please choose a number.
Step 3 · Your family

Who the puppy will live with.

The breeder sees ages, other dogs and allergies, the things that decide temperament fit.
Children in the household?
Breeders match temperament to ages. A toddler and a toy breed is a real conversation.
Please answer yes or no.
How many children?
Dogs already in the household?
Size and energy of the resident dog shapes which puppy fits, and how introductions go.
Please answer yes or no.
How many dogs?
Does anyone in the household have allergies?
Lets the breeder steer you toward lower-shedding coats, before you fall for the wrong one.
Please answer yes or no.
A few words about the allergy (at least 10 characters).
Step 4 · Why a dog

The part breeders read most closely.

The breeder sees your reason in your words, and your consent to the one non-negotiable.
Companion for the kids? First dog after a loss? Running partner? Retirement buddy? All good answers. Tell the breeder a little more (at least 10 characters).
Please confirm the consent line to submit.
This is the one non-negotiable on the page. Every Pawrade breeder has signed the No Puppy Mill Pledge; every family confirms this line. Both protect the puppy.

Why we ask
Breeders match puppies to families, not to buyers.

They've raised this litter for eight weeks or more. Before one leaves, they want to picture the home, and anything that gives them pause becomes a conversation, not a rejection.

What happens next

Saved to your account

Fill it out once. Every inquiry you send afterward carries it automatically.

Sent with your first inquiry

When you ask about a puppy, the breeder gets your questions and your questionnaire together.

The breeder and a specialist reply

Both answer in one message center. If something needs a conversation, it happens here: phone, text or email.

Reserve when it's a match

The breeder says yes, you reserve on PetPay, and the licensed-vet exam is scheduled before travel.

From the breeder's side

“I've had these puppies since the day they were born. Of course I want to know where they're going.”

Pawrade breeders are screened, sign the No Puppy Mill Pledge, and have every puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian before it travels. The questionnaire is the part of the process they asked for, so they can do for the home what we do for the puppy.

Questions about the questions

Honest answers, both ways.

There are no trick questions and no “right” household. The questionnaire exists so a breeder can say yes with confidence, or start a conversation.

Puppy first, every step of the way. ♡
Who actually reads my answers?+

Two people, and only when you ask about a puppy:

The breeder of that puppy, so they can picture the home before they say yes
The Pawrade specialist helping you, so the conversation starts informed
Nobody else. It isn't sold, shared with other breeders, or used for marketing; it sits in your PetPay account until you send an inquiry

One, and it's the consent line about abuse, cruelty or neglect. Everything else is context, not a test:

An apartment, no yard, young kids, another dog: these steer the match toward the right puppy, they don't end it
If something gives a breeder pause, they raise it with you; that conversation is the point
Shelter data is clear on why placements fail: mismatched expectations and incompatibility with existing pets. Every question here exists to catch that before it happens

Because temperament gets matched to the household, and children change the math in both directions:

Child-psychiatry guidance: children under 10 can't care for a dog on their own, so the breeder is picturing the adults' bandwidth too
Pediatricians recommend adult supervision of every young-child-and-dog interaction; a tiny puppy and a toddler is a real conversation, not a “no”
Many Pawrade breeders raise litters around their own children and look for family homes on purpose

Because the resident dog didn't sign up for this, and the first weeks decide a lot:

Size and energy matter: a senior dog and a bouncy large-breed puppy is a hard start; a well-socialized adult and a calmer puppy is an easy one
Puppies under four months often miss an adult dog's “enough” signals, so veterinarians advise neutral-ground introductions and supervised early play
Knowing about your dog lets the breeder suggest the puppy in the litter most likely to fit in

So the breeder can be honest with you before you fall for the wrong puppy:

Allergists are unanimous: no breed is truly hypoallergenic. The allergen is in dander and saliva, not hair length
Lower-shedding coats can still help many families; the breeder can point you to them and suggest meeting the parents first
Allergies are among the most common reasons a dog is later rehomed; an honest answer now protects the puppy later

No. Browse, favorite and compare freely.

The questionnaire is required before a breeder can respond to an inquiry, about five minutes
Fill it out once and every inquiry afterward carries it, so asking about a puppy becomes one click

A fit, not a perfect household. Breeders who place puppies well look for the same few things:

Space and energy that suit the breed: a herding dog with no outlet or a toy breed in a rough-and-tumble home is where problems start
Time and attention: who's home, who walks, who trains
Realistic expectations. The AVMA calls unmet expectations the primary reason dogs are given up
A reason. “Why do you want a dog?” is the answer most breeders read first

No. It's the buyer's half. The breeder's half happened before the puppy was ever listed:

Every Pawrade breeder is screened and signs the No Puppy Mill Pledge
Every puppy is examined by a licensed veterinarian before it travels, on a Veterinary Health Report you can read
The questionnaire is how the breeder does for the home what we do for the puppy
Haven't found your puppy yet? Fill this out anyway.
It's saved to your account, so when the right one appears you can ask about it in one click, and the breeder already knows your home.
