Getting your Rottweiler puppy to Wausau
From the breeder's arms to yours
Your Rottweiler can come home to Wausau five ways, and your Travel Concierge plans the trip with you.
Meet your breeder and your puppy at a public place near them, a date and spot your Travel Concierge sets up with both of you.
Your breeder (or their nanny) brings the puppy to a nearby public spot, typically their closest airport, police or fire station.
An approved ground partner drives your puppy to the address nearest you in a climate-controlled cabin.
Airlines fly puppies in cargo only when it's between 45°F and 85°F at every airport on the route; in Wausau the normal low falls below 20°F on about 108 days a year, so a winter flight sometimes waits for a milder one.
A flight nanny, usually an off-duty flight attendant, carries your puppy in the cabin from the breeder's arms to yours, same day.
- 1You reserve your Rottweiler and choose how it travels.
- 2The breeder's vet examines your puppy 3 to 5 days before it leaves; the health certificate and the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection, required by law for interstate travel, are included.
- 3Most puppies are home in one to three weeks, and your own vet sees yours within 72 hours of arrival.

A little paperwork, a lot of love
The nearest 24-hour emergency vet is PAW Health Network - 24 Hour Animal Care Center in Kronenwetter, about 10 miles from Wausau.
The rabies vaccine protects your puppy against rabies, and Wisconsin requires it by 5 months of age. A licensed vet gives it on the schedule Wisconsin requires. Keep the rabies certificate the vet gives you; licensing and the rules for bringing a dog into Wisconsin both ask for it.
Most places require you to license your dog, and Wisconsin is one of them. A dog license is a registration with your city, village or town: you show proof of your puppy's rabies vaccine. It matters for three reasons: it's your local government's record that your dog is vaccinated, it's how a lost dog gets matched back to you, and it funds the animal-control service that would pick your dog up. Wisconsin requires it once a dog is older than 5 months. Apply through your city, village or town treasurer; bring the rabies certificate your vet gives you.
Take your puppy to your own vet within 72 hours of arrival.
Only with Pawrade, you receive a pet insurance policy with no waiting period included for immediate accident or illness coverage, 1 month, with every puppy.†
†NH, NY, RI, SC and TN residents excluded. Activated by calling MetLife; coverage begins immediately following policy activation. See the offer for full terms.
