What Should I Put in my Puppy’s Easter Basket?

The only problem you’ll have assembling a dog Easter basket for your puppy is deciding what to put in it or which pre-made basket to choose!

Made of high-quality materials

Sometimes the cheapest puppy items are not the best choice. These items could be made poorly or be constructed with materials that are actually toxic to dogs. Stick with high-quality toys that have solid reviews or come highly recommended by your puppy owner friends or vet.

Fits your budget

When financially preparing for a puppy, you will quickly learn you’ll want to buy your cutie everything you see. You’ll need to resist the temptation to buy every adorable puppy gift out there and stick to items that fit your budget.

Doesn’t outshine the other Easter baskets

If you lavish love on your puppy with all of these recommended Easter basket items for dogs and only give your young kids 4 small items each, you may want to rethink that. You’re trying to build a bond between your puppy and your children, so be cognizant of how your kids will feel, and don’t go overboard in one direction.

Easter Basket Safety For Puppies

Easter is a celebration of new life, but you want to protect your puppy’s life however you can. Make sure to create a safe environment for your puppy by carefully choosing your Easter basket contents.

Chocolate bunnies, eggs, and candy should be kept completely away from puppies because ingesting chocolate can be fatal to your puppy. Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which are extremely toxic to dogs and can be fatal if ingested. Call your vet right away or go straight to an emergency vet if you believe your puppy has ingested chocolate.

Likewise, some candy contains a sugar substitute called xylitol, another substance that can poison your puppy. According to the Veterinary Centers of America (VCA), “Even small amounts of xylitol can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), seizures, liver failure, or even death in dogs.”

Always supervise your puppy around its Easter basket. Pay attention to any materials used in your puppy’s Easter basket. Stay away from fake plastic grass. If your puppy chews and swallows fake grass, wicker, or any other materials, he or she could experience gastrointestinal issues and potential blockage. Your puppy also may have become a soft-stuffie destroyer, so monitor the plush toys you give.
