“But so many dogs in shelters and rescues can be adopted!”

Thousands of dogs that end up in shelters or rescues for whatever reasons need to be rehomed. While it may be statistically true that some shelters or rescues are nearing capacity, the amount of dogs available for adoption does not always equal the demand from the community. Some people may tell you it’s easy and cheap to adopt a dog from a shelter or rescue. Others will claim shelter or rescue dogs to be the only dogs worth getting and try to shame people into getting a dog from these organizations.

However, a dog from a shelter or rescue might not be the best fit for your family for a variety of reasons:

Desired availability

When you are ready to become a puppy owner, it’s a big step to welcome a puppy into your home. It has to be at the right time in your life. If you’ve selected the right dog breed for you and your household based on your research, you may have a difficult time finding one that is available that fits your wishes.

You cannot always guarantee a shelter will have a puppy the exact age or dog breed you prefer. Oftentimes, shelters and rescues are full of Pit Bulls and Pit mixes. While Pit Bulls can make loving pets with the right owners who understand the breed, they aren’t for everyone, and that’s okay. You may need a hypoallergenic dog breed if you or a loved one in your household has allergies. Maybe you were looking for a dog in a certain weight range that turns out to be much bigger as an adult than you expected or able to handle. Sometimes a dog will be called one breed but is a mutt that looks like a purebred or is listed as the incorrect breed entirely. For these reasons and more, a shelter or rescue may not be able to match your exact wishes for a puppy.

Meeting qualifications

An adoption application from a shelter or rescue can feel like applying to college or a job all over again. While it’s important to find a good fit, the stipulations may be beyond a person’s reach, even if they plan on being a responsible, loving pet owner.

For example, a rescue might require all homes to be a certain size or have a tall, fenced-in yard. Others may require a home with no other pets or children. You may not want to offer the type of training method the shelter or rescue requires. Many homeowners who would otherwise make wonderful pawrents would not be candidates for adoption.

If a puppy that is the right dog breed and age for you is available, that still doesn’t mean you are guaranteed an adoption. Even if you get past the screening process and have a perfect application, you may be just one person in a long line of applicants for the same dog. Repeated rejections can be disheartening while continuing to put your life on hold, and you’ll never know exactly when you will be matched.

Unknown past

If only dogs could talk, they could tell so many sad tales of how they ended up in a shelter or rescue. Unfortunately, employees have to guess and go on the little information they have about the dog’s background.

Some people are ready and willing to accept the challenge of owning a shelter dog with an unknown past. However, many of us are not ready to adopt a dog where we don’t know about any prior health conditions, behavioral issues, or other factors where we don’t want to take a “Let’s just see how this goes” approach. If you have children or other pets, the shelter or rescue dog may not react until months later, causing a major household upheaval. Sadly, these dogs are taken back to the shelter or returned to the rescue to repeat the process.

Find exactly what you’re looking for at Pawrade

We have a variety of puppies to fit every wish, from gentle giants like Great Danes to tiny teacup breeds. There is no expensive application to fill out, and you won’t have to wait forever when you find the puppy of your dreams that matches exactly what you’re looking for in a furever friend. We work with a wide network of dog breeders who offer a perfect puppy for every household. Each breeder on our platform undergoes rigorous screening, and their interactions with pet-seekers are under constant supervision.

To get to know your puppy, you will want a safe, secure way to contact your breeder rather than just through random apps or messaging services. With Pawrade, there's no direct correspondence between buyers and sellers without our watchful eye. Our representatives actively monitor, and engage in all communication, whether it's via SMS, video call, email, or phone, and participate in the process to ensure a secure and respectful exchange.

“Available puppies for $50. Kindly inquire within!”

You may turn to social media sites and groups to look for a dog. The inclination is to pick the cheapest dog that’s available right away. However, getting your puppy through a social media post or local backyard breeder is a recipe for disaster and screams “puppy scam!”

Puppy scammers leave a wake of heartbreak and grief when you find yourself scammed out of both money and a puppy. We all would like to think it would never happen to us, but unfortunately, puppy scammers are savvy. They have websites that look legitimate, cute puppies at prices too good to be true, and make promises beyond what they can actually deliver.

Unfortunately, puppy scammers are everywhere and are more common than you might think. Experts say a shocking 80% of sponsored pet advertisements may be fake. A 2022 in-depth study from the Better Business Bureau’s Puppy Scam Tracker found that puppy scam losses are expected to approach $2 million with an average loss of $850 in 2022, up 60% since 2017. This means puppy scammers are getting more savvy with their techniques to steal your money with no puppy in sight.

Scammers exploit you because they know buying a puppy is an emotional purchase that may cloud your judgment, especially when you see a situation that seems too good to be true.

How to spot a puppy scammer

While they keep shifting tactics to stay one step ahead, you can spot a puppy scammer by asking yourself these questions before buying a puppy off a social media post or on the side of the road:

  • Is the price is too good to be true? Reputable breeders care for their puppies from before birth, and impeccable care isn’t cheap. With labor and expenses, breeders are investing sometimes more than $10,000 into a litter. That’s why you will see prices for $2000-3000 per puppy on a litter of 5-10. There’s just no way a dam and her puppies are getting the proper care for cheap prices.

  • Is the payment method secure? Puppy scammers will demand payment via a form that cannot be traced, disputed, or refunded with protection. Watch out for payment requests via MoneyGram, check, gift cards, or unsecure apps like Zelle.

  • Is a contract, a health guarantee, or veterinary records included? A puppy contract outlines the breeder’s and the buyer’s responsibilities and puts the well-being of puppies as the number one priority. Puppy scammers will often tell you “Sure, they’ve had their shots,” but how do you know? You also won’t know about the dam’s prenatal care, the whelping area, how much stimuli and socialization the puppies have received, which vaccines they’ve had already (if any), or stipulations for what to do if you need care after the sale.

How Pawrade Stays One Paw Ahead For Secure Puppy Adoptions

At Pawrade, we understand that a critical aspect of a safe and transparent pet adoption process is secure payment handling. What sets us apart is our commitment to you to experience a secure, fraud-free pet adoption experience. We utilize PetPay.com, a trusted and specialized payment provider in the pet adoption industry, to offer a seamless and secure payment experience for both pet-seekers and breeders. Pawrade ONLY accepts payment through PetPay.com. We will NEVER accept or ask for payment via cash, Western Union, PayPal, or other money order services. We will never contact you through Telegram, WhatsApp, or similar anonymous services. PetPay.com accepts the following payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Bank Transfer.

Need financing? No problem! You can apply with Klarna to set up 4 payments (no interest). Your first payment happens at checkout, and the next 3 payments occur every other week. Delivery costs are paid separately if you need your puppy to be transported to you. Another easy option is to apply for a small personal loan to pay smaller, monthly payments over 18-36 months. This option can also include transportation costs. You may qualify for no interest for the first 6 months as well. Pawrade makes puppies accessible to each situation and payment preference.

Pawrade puppies are protected

Another unique feature is how we take a “Puppy First” approach. You will receive all veterinarian records stating an up-to-date vaccination schedule and any notes. In addition to your breeder's health guarantee, we go above and beyond and provide a comprehensive 3-year health guarantee ensuring this transition is as stress-free and enjoyable as possible for you and your family. We also offer 30 days free of MetLife insurance to get started on the right journey of protection.

Can I meet my puppy before I receive it?

At Pawrade, we offer virtual meet & greets with our breeders for several reasons:

  • Health & Sanitation: On-site visitations can create opportunities for sneaky germs and bacteria to invade breeders’ homes and spread through the house, making the puppies extremely sick. These germs and bacteria can be deadly to puppies and be extremely difficult to manage. Another major reason breeders made the shift was due to the pandemic. Breeders didn’t feel comfortable with strangers in their houses or businesses, putting them at risk for exposure and getting ill.

  • Safety Precautions: We know that the care of your puppy is paramount, so we make it our number one goal to ensure the safety of each puppy. Dognapping is a problem across the country, and a lot of breeders do not want to take any risks of compromising the safety and security of not only your puppy but also the entire kennel.

  • Time Management: When you have a litter of puppies, the amount of time and effort it takes on a day-to-day basis is beyond what many can fathom. Breeders have busy lives, families, and careers. Puppies need constant attention, stimulation, and care.

“How much is that doggie in the window?”

You buy your cereal at a grocery store and your gas at a gas station, so why not buy a puppy from the pet store?

Not so fast. While puppies in clear cubicles and cages might look cute and healthy to the naked eye, they have already had a rough start in life if they’re in a pet store. These puppies are sourced from dubious, shady places and are most likely the products of puppy mills.

The tragic reality of puppy mills

In an abhorrent puppy mill, dogs are forced to breed their entire lives until they are unable to do so physically and are most likely to face a tragic ending when no longer useful to the company’s finances. Dams and puppies face behavioral and psychological abuse, squalid conditions, and a lack of exercise, nutrition, healthcare – and love.

When you buy from pet stores, you are most likely inadvertently supporting horrid facilities. Pet stores will not be able to tell you about the health of the parents and puppies, details about each puppy’s personality, a record of their vaccines and nutrition, and what experiences they have been exposed to to prepare them for lives outside their littermates and mothers. Puppy mills perpetuate inhumane practices toward animals with cruelty and neglect – and we know you don’t want that!

Pawrade actively fights against puppy mills

With the help of Pawrade, you’ll learn how to spot a puppy scammer and avoid dealing with dishonest dog sellers. It’s easy to avoid accidentally supporting puppy mills when you join us in our efforts with our No Puppy Mill Pledge. We have  ZERO tolerance toward puppy mills and take pride in connecting you with honest, vetted, and reputable breeders.

To avoid accidentally supporting puppy mills, choose a puppy from our network of responsible breeders who provide impeccable care to every puppy. Our breeders have strong relationships with local licensed veterinarians, keep meticulous medical records, and ensure their puppies get plenty of exposure to different stimuli and time to play. Their kennel facilities are climate-controlled, sparkling clean, and well-lit with plenty of places to run around and explore safely.

Our breeders pass criminal background checks while we check current and previous years of reports on puppy mills and backyard breeders for red flags. We require pictures of whelping areas and the environment in which the puppies are raised along with asking for licensing and registration. We also know how many breeding dogs each breeder keeps. Pawrade obtains this information for a secure, legitimate, law-abiding adoption experience.

Where can I find Pawrade puppies for sale near me?

Pawrade’s Revolutionary Puppy Adoption Experience

The process of purchasing a puppy online has never been easier when you have a specialist in your back pocket to guide you every step of the way. We screen breeders for you, facilitate secure adoptions, keep lines of communication open, and protect you, your breeder, and most importantly – your puppy.

Our pet adoption experience is easy! Here are the simple steps to follow when you find your canine companion.

Reserve your puppy

We are here to help you find the best puppy for you! Feel free to contact us at any point in the process. Click the “Reserve me” button to fill out a buyer questionnaire so we can get to know you better and place your payment to secure your puppy.

Coordinate & plan

After payment is made the breeder must review and accept or decline your adoption request. Upon acceptance, we begin the adoption process. We manually review every transaction. During this stage, we will be in touch with you to confirm your identity and to finalize your travel plans.

Head-to-Tail veterinary exam

Before any puppy is allowed to be released, we require that he or she be 8 weeks of age and meet a suitable weight threshold. Some breeders may opt to hold the puppy until 12 weeks of age or 2lbs., whichever comes first, for certain small breeds to give them time to develop and be fully ready to leave its dam and litter. Every puppy must be up-to-date on all vaccinations, pass a head-to-tail vet exam, and be issued a health certificate before the puppy will be allowed to travel. It is important to remember that these are the breeder’s babies, and the breeder remains in full control.

Puppy travel

Now it’s time to meet your puppy! You might be a little nervous about puppy travel, which is normal. Thankfully, we have a smooth process in place!

First, check with your puppy concierge to see what travel options are available for your puppy. Breeders love their puppies wholeheartedly and know their breeds well. Each breeder has chosen the best travel options for their litter with our assistance. For example, some snub-nosed breeds cannot fly. We transport puppies daily, and we consider ourselves pet transport experts! We only use the best pet transporters in the industry, and we PAWmise they will

do everything it takes to make sure your puppy gets to you happy, healthy, and safe. We are here to answer any questions you have about our puppy travel options

Review & feedback
