See if Bernsky puppies for sale are right for you by examining their characteristics, activity level, disposition, training, and grooming needs.

Characteristics

A Bernsky puppy for sale will most likely weigh in the range of a combination of their parents' weights. Since Siberian Huskies are medium-to-large dogs weighing 35-60 lbs. and Bernese Mountain Dogs at 70-115 lbs., you can expect most Bernsky puppies to be large dogs.

Bernsky puppies will have a solid, stout stance with fluffy tails and lots of hair. Their coats will show a genetic display and be a variation of colors, being tri-color like the Bernese Mountain Dog or black, white, brown, sable, and gray like a Husky.

Activity Level

Siberian Huskies and Bernese Mountain Dogs were historically used to hard work in grueling conditions, most notably for sledding and hauling gear over long stretches of rough terrain in cold weather. However, Siberian Huskies have a very high energy level and Bernese Mountain Dogs are calmer and mellow. This means a Bernsky puppy for sale can exhibit traits that could go either way.

However, all Bernsky puppies for sale will require a moderate-to-high amount of activity each day. These dogs thrive when given some sort of "job" to do, whether it's playing fetch, going on hikes, or getting the zoomies at a dog park. They're also very curious and intelligent, so make sure to provide them with plenty of mentally stimulating opportunities.

Disposition

Bernsky puppies can exhibit both traits of their parent breeds, and some may be more dominant than others. Bernese Mountain Dogs are known for being "gentle giants" with their laid-back personalities. In contrast, Siberian Huskies are more mischievous and outgoing. It truly depends on genetics for each Bernsky puppy's personality.

Bernsky puppies overall will be friendly and loyal to their families. Both parent breeds are social and affectionate with people and other dogs, especially children. The Bernese Mountain Dog is sometimes called a "nanny dog" due to their protective, non-aggressive nature with children, and Siberian Huskies thrive when being a member of a pack. Both qualities lend themselves to Bernsky puppies being great family dogs.

Training

Training Bernsky puppies for sale will require patience, consistency, and lots of positive praise and positive reinforcement. Both parent breeds are extremely intelligent, which makes training both rewarding and sometimes frustrating due to a possible stubborn streak.

Bernsky puppies should catch on quickly to housebreaking and simple commands. It's important to establish yourself as the leader early on. They would do a stellar job in dog sports like agility, dock diving, and more.

Grooming Needs & Care

Bernsky puppies for sale will be heavy shedders like their parents, so it's necessary to keep up with brushing their coats regularly with a variety of tools meant for double-coated dogs. Their nails, teeth, eyes, and ears will need regular care. Bathing will need to be done every few months or when they develop a body odor. Never shave a double-coated dog because it will prevent proper temperature regulation.

Due to their large size, Bernese Mountain Dogs do live a shorter life in general (7-10 years) than a Siberian Husky (12-14 years). Not much is known about particular health conditions specific to this hybrid breed, but Bernsky puppy owners can expect a fulfilling life with proper preventative care.
