Question 1

How big does a Mini Goldendoodle get when fully grown?

Accepted Answer

A grown Mini Goldendoodle typically weighs 26–35 lb and stands 14–17 in at the shoulder. Adult size depends on the parents and varies by generation, so each puppy's listing shows its parents' weights.

Question 2

Is a Mini Goldendoodle a good choice if I want a smaller dog?

Accepted Answer

It is the smallest common size of the Goldendoodle, a small-to-medium dog. If you want smaller still, Goldendoodles in the Petite class stand under 14 in at the shoulder. Growth slows at around 6–9 months, but a young puppy's adult size is only an educated guess until it is grown.

Question 3

What is the difference between petite, mini, medium and standard Goldendoodles?

Accepted Answer

The difference is height at the shoulder, which sorts Goldendoodles into Petite, Mini, medium and standard classes, from smallest to largest. Size comes mainly from the Poodle parent, so Minis usually have a Miniature Poodle parent and some Minis and Petites have a Toy Poodle parent. Medium and standard Goldendoodles have their own page.

Question 4

Will a Mini Goldendoodle puppy's coat be curly, wavy or straight?

Accepted Answer

Any of the three can happen, and all three are soft with facial furnishings. Furnishings are the beard, mustache and eyebrows of the doodle face, and dogs that inherit them shed less than flat-coated dogs without them.

Question 5

What are a Mini Goldendoodle's parent breeds?

Accepted Answer

A Mini Goldendoodle comes from a Golden Retriever and a smaller Poodle, usually a Miniature Poodle and sometimes a Toy Poodle for the smaller Minis and Petites. The Poodle parent mainly sets the size.

Question 6

Is a Mini Goldendoodle a different breed from a Goldendoodle?

Accepted Answer

No, it is the same Golden Retriever and Poodle cross in a smaller size. Mini Goldendoodle and Miniature Goldendoodle are two names for the same size.

Question 7

Are Mini Goldendoodles calm or high-energy?

Accepted Answer

Mini Goldendoodles are high-energy dogs, like the larger Goldendoodles. A grown dog needs 30–60 minutes of exercise every day, and a growing puppy does best kept lean.

Question 8

Can a Mini Goldendoodle be a service or therapy dog?

Accepted Answer

Some are, and one has made the national stage. Moxie, a 5-year-old Mini Goldendoodle service dog from Ballwin, Missouri, was a national finalist in the 2023 American Humane Hero Dog Awards.

Question 9

Will a Mini Goldendoodle get along with my other dog?

Accepted Answer

Most Mini Goldendoodle puppies on Pawrade meet other dogs before they go home: breeders socialize 82% of litters with small-breed dogs and 66% with large-breed dogs. You would not be alone, because about a third of Pawrade Mini Goldendoodle buyers already have another dog.

Question 10

Are Mini Goldendoodles good with children?

Accepted Answer

Most Mini Goldendoodle puppies on Pawrade meet children before they go home. Breeders socialize 88% of litters with young children and 70% with older children. Many buyers have kids at home too: more than a third of Pawrade Mini Goldendoodle buyers have children.

Question 11

Are Mini Goldendoodles good with cats?

Accepted Answer

Some puppies meet cats before they leave, but breeders on Pawrade socialize fewer litters with cats than with children or other dogs. If you have a cat, ask your breeder whether your puppy has met one.

Question 12

Is a Mini Goldendoodle a good hiking or outdoor companion?

Accepted Answer

An energetic Mini Goldendoodle suits an owner who gets outside every day. If your dog swims, check and dry its ears afterward. While a puppy is growing, keep it lean and build up longer outings as it matures.

Question 13

Can a Mini Goldendoodle live happily in an apartment?

Accepted Answer

Many do, as long as they get daily exercise and regular grooming. Most Pawrade Mini Goldendoodle buyers live in a house, and a smaller group live in an apartment or condo.

Question 14

What should a Mini Goldendoodle eat?

Accepted Answer

A young puppy eats 3–4 small meals a day, ideally from a slow feeder. Keep your puppy lean while it grows. Choose the food with your vet, because grain-free and legume-rich diets have been linked to a heart-muscle disease in Golden Retrievers.

Question 15

When can my Mini Goldendoodle puppy go running with me?

Accepted Answer

Wait until your Mini Goldendoodle has finished growing before jogging or long runs, and ask your vet when that is. Until then, let it play at its own pace, because the growth plates in a puppy's legs stay soft while it grows. Small dogs finish growing sooner than large ones, and a Mini usually stops its rapid growth at around 6–9 months.

Question 16

Do Mini Goldendoodles shed, and are they hypoallergenic?

Accepted Answer

Most Mini Goldendoodles shed little, but no dog is truly hypoallergenic. Dogs with furnishings shed the least, while flat-coated dogs and some first-generation crosses shed more. Allergy sensitivity varies from person to person, so spend time with a dog before you commit if someone at home has allergies.

Question 17

How much grooming does a Mini Goldendoodle need?

Accepted Answer

More than a Golden Retriever, because the coat mats and needs regular clipping. Brush at home, book a professional groom every 4–8 weeks, and check the ears after swimming.

Question 18

How should I train a Mini Goldendoodle puppy?

Accepted Answer

Start early and keep it structured. The first 3 months are the main window for socialization, and puppy classes can start at 7–8 weeks of age. Keep obedience training structured through adolescence.

Question 19

How do I house-train a Mini Goldendoodle puppy?

Accepted Answer

Take your puppy out first thing in the morning, last thing at night and after every nap. Keep the crate in a room where the family spends time, or in your bedroom at night, so you hear when your puppy needs to go out. Some breeders on Pawrade start crate training before the puppies go home, so ask how far your puppy has got.

Question 20

How long can a Mini Goldendoodle puppy hold its bladder?

Accepted Answer

A puppy can usually hold its bladder for about as many hours as it is months old, so a 3-month-old can wait about 3 hours. Stretch the gaps between trips outside slowly as your puppy grows.

Question 21

Why did my Mini Goldendoodle stop listening at 8 months?

Accepted Answer

Your Mini Goldendoodle has probably reached adolescence, which may begin around 8 months, when many young dogs test the rules and seem to forget their training. It is a normal stage that passes, so keep training short and consistent, be patient, and give plenty of physical and mental exercise. Most dogs are fully grown and settled into adulthood at around 2 years.

Question 22

When can a Mini Goldendoodle puppy go home?

Accepted Answer

Puppies travel only once they are at least 8 weeks old and weigh at least 2 lb. Most Mini Goldendoodle puppies go home at about 11 weeks, usually between 9 and 17 weeks.

Question 23

How many puppies are in a Mini Goldendoodle litter?

Accepted Answer

A Mini Goldendoodle litter on Pawrade usually has about 6 puppies, and most litters have between 3 and 9. Litter sizes are reported by the breeders.

Question 24

How are Pawrade Mini Goldendoodle puppies raised before they come home?

Accepted Answer

Breeders report that they socialize 88% of Mini Goldendoodle litters with young children and 82% with small-breed dogs before the puppies leave. They also report getting 56% of litters used to the sound of a vacuum cleaner. Some breeders start crate training too, so ask about your puppy's routine. These figures come from what breeders reported for 680 litters. Keep it going once your puppy is home, because the first 3 months are the main window for socialization.

Question 25

What should I prepare before my Mini Goldendoodle puppy comes home?

Accepted Answer

Set up a crate where the family spends time, get a slow-feeder bowl and grooming tools, and book a first vet visit for the early days. At that visit, ask the vet to listen to the heart and check the knees and eyelids.

Question 26

When does a Mini Goldendoodle puppy stop teething?

Accepted Answer

Most puppies finish teething by about 6 months, when all the adult teeth are in. The baby teeth start falling out at around 12 weeks, so expect extra chewing from then on. Offer safe chew toys, rotate a few at a time, and keep shoes and other valued things out of reach.

Question 27

When will my Mini Goldendoodle puppy finish its vaccines?

Accepted Answer

Most puppies finish their core vaccine series at about 16 weeks, and your vet sets the exact schedule. Until then, keep your puppy away from sick animals, and follow your vet's advice on where it can go. Puppy classes can start before the series ends, from 7–8 weeks, as your vet advises.

Question 28

When should my Mini Goldendoodle puppy start socialization and classes?

Accepted Answer

Start right away, because the first 3 months are the most important time for socialization. Give your puppy short, positive meetings with new people, places, animals and everyday things. Puppy classes can begin at 7–8 weeks, once your vet is happy with the first vaccines.

Question 29

How much do a Mini Goldendoodle puppy's parents weigh?

Accepted Answer

Each listing shows the puppy's own parents' weights, because a Mini Goldendoodle's adult size depends on its parents and varies by generation. Parents of Pawrade Mini Goldendoodles typically weigh 14–35 lb (fathers) and 14–33 lb (mothers).

Question 30

What is the Veterinary Health Report?

Accepted Answer

The Veterinary Health Report is the written record of your Mini Goldendoodle puppy's health exam before it goes home. The breeder's licensed veterinarian examines the puppy to PetPay's exam standards and records the results in the report. It is a full hands-on exam of your puppy itself, not a record of the parents' health.

Question 31

Who examines my Mini Goldendoodle puppy before it goes home?

Accepted Answer

The breeder's own licensed veterinarian examines every Mini Goldendoodle puppy before it goes home. The vet follows PetPay's exam standards and records the findings in your puppy's Veterinary Health Report. A hard copy of the report travels with your puppy for your records, and a digital copy is in your PetPay account.

Question 32

What does the exam check in a Mini Goldendoodle?

Accepted Answer

The breeder's licensed vet gives each Mini Goldendoodle puppy a full hands-on exam before it goes home, to PetPay's exam standards. The vet listens to the heart for a murmur, feels both knees for a kneecap that slips out of place, and checks the eyelids, lashes and eyes. A heart narrowing (subvalvular aortic stenosis) runs on the Golden Retriever side and slipping kneecaps on the Poodle side, so these checks fit a Mini Goldendoodle well.

Question 33

Which vaccines will my Mini Goldendoodle puppy have had?

Accepted Answer

Before travel, every puppy follows PetPay's vaccination and deworming schedule as far as its age allows: deworming at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 weeks, and the distemper, parvo, adenovirus and parainfluenza combination shot at 6–8, 9–11 and 12–14 weeks. Bordetella and corona are given at the vet's discretion, and no vaccine is given within 3 days of travel. Rabies is given by a licensed vet on the schedule your state requires. Your own vet completes the series. Your puppy's vaccination and deworming records are separate documents that travel with your puppy. Bring them, with the Veterinary Health Report, to your first visit so your vet starts from the same record.

Question 34

What happens if the vet finds something?

Accepted Answer

If the vet finds something that could put your puppy at risk during travel, your puppy stays with the breeder until it's resolved. Problems that can be treated before travel are treated by the breeder's licensed vet first. Anything else the vet notes is shared with you.

Question 35

Why can't the exam find everything?

Accepted Answer

Puppies grow and change quickly, and their immune systems are still developing, so no exam can find everything. The pre-travel exam by the breeder's licensed vet is a strong early indicator and a documented starting point. Your own vet builds on it at the first visit and at every checkup after that. Many inherited eye diseases, such as progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), show up later in life, so a puppy exam cannot rule them out.

Question 36

Does a Mini Goldendoodle from Pawrade come with a health guarantee?

Accepted Answer

Every Pawrade puppy comes with a health guarantee administered by PetPay, independent of the seller. The terms are on the health guarantee page.

Question 37

Can a Mini Goldendoodle be registered?

Accepted Answer

Not with the AKC or UKC, which do not recognize the cross. The Goldendoodle Association of North America registers Goldendoodles, including the Mini size.

Question 38

What do other Mini Goldendoodle buyers say?

Accepted Answer

They rate their Pawrade experience highly, at 4.7 out of 5 on average from 538 reviews. Of those reviews, 81% give 5 stars.

Question 39

How much does a Mini Goldendoodle puppy cost?

Accepted Answer

Right now, most Mini Goldendoodle puppies on Pawrade are listed within the typical range shown on Pawrade's Mini Goldendoodle listings. Each breeder on Pawrade sets their own price, and each puppy's listing shows it. A Mini Goldendoodle puppy's price reflects what goes into it: its pedigree and registration, its coat and color, and the breeder's program. Every Pawrade puppy's price also includes the pre-travel exam by the breeder's licensed vet, the Veterinary Health Report and a health guarantee administered by PetPay.
