Neapolitan Mastiff Puppies for Sale

Neapolitan Mastiff Puppies For Sale: About the Breed

The Neapolitan Mastiff has an ancient lineage tracing back to ancient Rome and may go back as far as 700 BCE. They were used in the Roman Empire as gladiators, guardians, and war dogs to intimidate foes. Italians later used them as personal watchdogs, but the biggest things they might be watching and fighting today are your TV as they take over your couch and the urge to eat that entire fresh pizza on the counter.

As members of the working group, Neapolitan Mastiffs have deterred criminals and trespassers for centuries. Today, this noble, dignified giant is an excellent family dog and equally alert guard dog. Find out what it's like to own Neapolitan Mastiff puppies for sale regarding their characteristics, activity level, disposition, training, and grooming needs.

Characteristics

Neapolitan Mastiff puppies for sale are enormous and imposing, intimidating most people who are not educated on how sweet they can be. They grow to stand 24-31 inches tall and can weigh 110-150 pounds!

Neapolitan Mastiff puppies have one of the biggest heads in the canine kingdom and profuse folds and wrinkles on their faces and bodies. Their powerful, heavy bones carry a muscular body with a lumbering walk. They come in tawny, mahogany, blue, and black with brindle markings. Owners can choose to crop their floppy ears that hang down in inverted triangles to make them short and pointy. Their paws are the size of dinner plates, and you'll need enough space in your home to house them comfortably.

Activity Level

If you're looking for "Neapolitan Mastiff puppies for sale near me," you may assume they need lots of exercise because of their large size. While they do need 30-45 minutes of daily walks and playtime, they don't need as much exercise as you think. In fact, it's important that you don't get too strenuous because their large bones take longer to mature than smaller breeds. They are also prone to heat exhaustion, so don't overexert them in hot weather.

Disposition

Neapolitan Mastiff puppies are dignified and loyal family members who are sweet and peaceful with their people. They are powerful watchdogs and can be protective of their family, so you'll need to socialize them to warm up to strangers. They do best as the only dog in the household.

As far as children are concerned, Neapolitan Mastiff puppies are sometimes called "nanny" dogs because of how gentle and protective they are of their human brothers and sisters. Even though they have lots of slobbery kisses for your kids, make sure to supervise them so your puppy doesn't accidentally knock over small children.

Training

Even if you have the most mild-natured puppy, it is absolutely imperative to begin training and socialization from day one since they are so huge and intimidating-looking. Steady, consistent, positive training methods should be used with lots of tasty treats and praise.

Socialization is so important in your efforts to raise a good canine citizen that won't scare people or cause them to mistrust your Neapolitan Mastiff. They are great with children and have a gentle spirit, so make sure you give them plenty of opportunities to practice their friendliness.

Grooming Needs & Care

Grooming a Neapolitan Mastiff puppy for sale involves regular brushing of its short, dense coat to minimize shedding and maintain skin health. Cleaning those deep facial wrinkles is vital to prevent skin infections by using a mild cleanser safe for dogs. Routine nail trimming and dental care should also be part of their grooming routine to ensure overall health and comfort.

Neapolitan Mastiffs are prone to various health challenges, including hip dysplasia, heart issues, and skin infections due to their deep wrinkles. Because of their deep chests, they can also be prone to bloat, also known as gastric torsion or gastric dilation-volvulus (GDV), a life-threatening condition in which a dog's stomach fills with gas or food, causing it to twist upon itself, leading to a dangerous obstruction of blood flow, severe pain, and potential tissue damage.

As a massive dog breed, they will have shorter lives with a lifespan of 7-9 years. Responsible breeding and regular veterinary care are crucial to mitigate these potential health concerns.
