Newfoundland For Sale: About the Breed

If you're looking for a devoted, sweet, hard-working dog breed, a Newfoundland puppy for sale may be the perfect fit for you.

The Newfoundland dog breed is believed to have originated from Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, but several accounts differ in the history and origin of a Newfoundland puppy for sale. What we do know is these dogs were originally bred to assist fishermen in their work, as their large size and strong swimming ability made them ideal for tasks such as pulling carts, retrieving nets, and rescuing people from the water.

The breed's loyalty and gentle nature also made them popular as family pets. Today, Newfoundland puppies are known for their strength, loyalty, and affectionate temperament. See what it's like to own a Newfoundland puppy for sale by learning about this dog breed's characteristics, activity level, disposition, training, and grooming needs.

Characteristics

A Newfoundland is a large dog with muscular legs, a massive head, a dense bone structure, and displays a dignified, regal manner. A Newfoundland puppy will charm you with soulful eyes and a gentle spirit.

Their thick, double coats come in a variety of colors, including black, brown, gray, beige, white & black, black & tan, and white & brown color combinations. You may want to keep some towels handy because a Newfoundland puppy is a heavy drooler.

Activity Level

One might wonder due to its working history and size if a Newfy puppy for sale is a high-energy dog, but you may be interested to find that they're not too hyper and not too lazy. They have moderate activity needs and are equally happy thinking they are lap dogs for a cuddle session or going on a hike with you.

Disposition

If you're wondering, "What is the personality like of a Newfoundland puppy for sale near me?" you'll learn they're gentle giants. They are naturally curious without being skittish and are very outgoing. In fact, they don't like to be away from people and fit right in as a member of the family. A Newfoundland puppy for sale is not a big barker unless alerting its people to something amiss.

Newfoundland puppies for sale are amazing choices for families. They love being around children, other dogs, and people, making them pleasant and loyal companions. They've rightfully earned the nickname "nanny dog," and Nana from J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan novel is undoubtedly the most famous nanny Newfie.

Training

A Newfoundland puppy loves to please its owners and is intelligent, making the perfect combination for a successful training experience. In addition to basic training, a Newfoundland puppy can be introduced to water and dog sports as early as four months of age if they are to be working dogs.

Grooming Needs & Care

When you search for "Newfoundland puppies for sale near me," one of the first things you may notice is that magnificent, longhaired coat. A Newfy's coat is built perfectly to withstand the harsh weather of Newfoundland and Labrador as a working dog. Their double coat has a coarse, outer layer and a fine, lofty-haired undercoat. Newfoundland puppies for sale shed their coat year-round, so you must stay on top of brushing them several times a week with both a long-toothed comb and a slicker brush to remove dead hair, remove mats and debris, and keep their coat looking tidy.

Despite their long hair, Newfoundland puppies do not need regular haircuts. Professional grooming visits may include baths, nail trim, anal glands expression, ear and eye checks, and checking dental health.
