6 Ways to Prevent Puppy Boredom This Autumn

1. Go for a hike with your pup

One of the best parts about fall is the beautiful scenery and the cooler, refreshing air. To prevent puppy boredom, it’s fun to go on an adventure! Enjoy all nature has to offer when you take your puppy on a hike. There are plenty of trails to explore, and you can even make a game by trying to find all the leaves that have fallen from the trees.

Just be sure to keep an eye on your pup, as she may get tired more quickly than you think! Puppies under four months old should not be taken on long hikes as their bones and muscles are still developing. Once your pup reaches four months old, you can gradually start increasing the length and difficulty of your hikes.

Make sure to keep an eye on your pup at all times when outdoors, as there are many things that can pose a danger to them. Also, be sure to bring plenty of water for both of you, as puppies can get dehydrated quickly.

2. Visit a pumpkin patch and have a playdate

Pumpkin patches are one of the top fall-friendly activities to do with your puppy! Most have plenty of open space for them to run around and explore. You can set up a fall playdate with your friends at the pumpkin patch so your pups can socialize and burn off some energy.

You can get a cute photo of your pup next to a pumpkin while at it! Just be careful that they don't eat any of the pumpkins, as they can make puppies sick.

3. Go apple picking with your puppy pal

Apple picking is another fun activity that's perfect for fall. This activity is not only fun for your pup but also fun for you! It's a great way to spend time outdoors with your pup and get some yummy apples for baking pies for your family or following this homemade apple dog treat recipe.

Just like with pumpkin patches, be careful that your pup doesn't eat any of the apples before they are properly rinsed, as they can contain harmful chemicals that are bad for dogs. It’s a good idea to keep your pup on a leash so you can keep them away from the apples.

4. Have a picnic in the park with your pup

What could be sweeter than a picnic in the park with your new puppy? Spending time outdoors with your puppy helps prevent puppy boredom. Pack up a blanket and some snacks and enjoy a quiet afternoon in the park with your furry friend. Make sure to pack foods that you know are safe for your doggie, so you are not tempted to share your human food.

Did you know that fall is the perfect time to get your doggie new fall dog clothes and accessories? With the cooler weather on the way, your furry friend will stay warm and stylish all season long. While you are at it, you can do a fall photoshoot at the park and capture some memories that will last a lifetime!

5. Play in the leaves with the entire family

This is self-explanatory - go outside and play in the leaves with your puppy and bring the fam! They'll love chasing them, and you'll love spending quality time with your furry friend. You may even make a leaf pile big enough to jump! Plus, it's an excellent exercise for you and your family to keep your puppy active all afternoon.

6. Go trick-or-treating to prevent a bored puppy

Halloween is one of the best times of the year, so why not include your furry friend in the fun? There are plenty of dog Halloween costumes out there made just for dogs, so you're sure to find one that's perfect for your pup. Just be careful not to give them any candy, as chocolate and xylitol are poisonous to dogs and other sweets can give them stomach aches. Instead, provide them with a doggy treat that's made especially for them!

Other fun fall activities to do with your new puppy include:

  • Visiting a local farm
  • Going for a long walk in the park
  • Taking your pup to the dog park
  • Training your pup to fetch a ball or Frisbee
  • Go on a hayride
  • Have a bonfire (if you do Smore’s, then be sure to keep the chocolate out of reach)
  • Go for a scenic drive to look at the changing colors
  • Make some homemade fall-themed dog treats
  • Visit a corn maze
  • Go camping

Fall is a beautiful time of year, and it's even better when you share it with your new puppy! There are so many ways to prevent boredom with your active puppy by doing fun things together, from going on hikes and picnics in the park to playing in leaves and going trick-or-treating on Halloween!
