What is the History and Origin of Mini Goldendoodle Puppies For Sale?

While hybrid litters of Goldendoodles have been around since the 1990s, the Mini Goldendoodle is a recent phenomenon bred once people realized Standard Poodles mixed well with the Golden Retriever. When it became clear how versatile a Goldendoodle was, people began breeding Golden Retrievers and Goldendoodles to Mini Poodles (and even Toy Poodles) to create the modern-day Mini Goldendoodle.

Today, people love Mini Goldendoodle puppies for sale due to their inherited traits from both sets of breeds. Let’s learn more about each parent breed that comprises the Mini Goldendoodle hybrid crossbreed.

Golden Retrievers are used as dams due to their size when creating a first-generation Mini Goldendoodle.

Golden Retrievers and Mini Poodles

Two lovely parent breeds, the Golden Retriever and Mini Poodle, combine to make a Mini Goldendoodle. Due to the size difference, the Golden Retriever in a first-generation cross is always the mother (dam), and the Mini Poodle is always the father (sire) to produce a first-generation litter safely and ethically.

There are several traits in each parent a responsible breeder looks for when planning a Mini Goldendoodle litter:

  • Intelligence: Both parent breeds are among the list of the most intelligent dogs in the world, are eager to please their humans, and can learn a variety of commands not only for obedience but also as working dogs.
  • Athleticism: The Golden Retriever and Mini Poodle breeds are well-proportioned, sturdy, and muscular under all that fluff. The Mini Poodle may be small, but it is hearty and athletic. Both breeds do well out in fieldwork and agility as well and have a medium-to-high energy level without being uncontrollably hyper all the time.
  • Kindness and Patience: Owners of Golden Retrievers and Mini Poodles will tell you how intuitive these dogs can be – almost like they know exactly how their owners are feeling and act accordingly. They’re kind, patient, and gentle by nature.
  • Fun: Golden Retrievers and Mini Poodles will never be considered dull dogs, that’s for sure! They have lively, sprightly personalities and are always up for a good time.
  • Great Family Dogs: Even though both breeds are wonderful choices for individuals, Golden Retrievers and Mini Poodles are among some of the best dog breeds for families with children. All of the qualities mentioned above combine to make a fantastic dog with the potential to become a suitable companion for young children.

Mini Goldendoodle Generations Explained

But what if your Mini Goldendoodle is not a product of two purebred breeds and has a Mini Goldendoodle parent or parents? How about if one or both of the parents have letters and numbers before their breed name, such as F1BB, etc.? Let’s explore the different generations of Mini Goldendoodles and what those letters and numbers indicate.

  • “F” stands for “filial,” a Latin derivative of “filius” (son) and “filia” (daughter), so “filial” refers to the dog being a crossbreed of some kind.
  • Numbers (1 or 2) refer to which generation removed the puppy is from an original purebred cross.
  • Letters (B or BB) refer to backcrossing with a particular generation of Mini Goldendoodle instead of a purebred parent.

What generation of Mini Goldendoodle do I have?

When you get a Mini Goldendoodle with a reputable breeder, you’ll be given parent information to show which generation of Mini Goldendoodle puppy you’ve bought. Follow along to understand which one you have:

  • F1: The original crossbreed of a first-generation Mini Goldendoodle with one Golden Retriever mother and one Mini Poodle father.
  • F1B: An F1 Mini Goldendoodle is bred back to a purebred Mini Poodle, making the puppy a backcross to a purebred. The puppy is then 25% Golden Retriever and 75% Mini Poodle.
  • F1BB: An F1B Mini Goldendoodle is bred to an F1 Mini Goldendoodle of either sex. This is where the 2 Bs both stand for “backcross.” These puppies will be 12.5% Golden Retriever and 87.5% Mini Poodle.
  • F2: Two F1 Mini Goldendoodles are bred together.
  • F3: This designation is not typically used, but it is when 2 F2 Mini Goldendoodle parents are bred together.
  • Multigenerational: Two Mini Goldendoodles that do not fit the previous criteria are bred together, or F3 is generally included in this category.

How do generations affect shedding and allergy sufferers?

While Mini Goldendoodles are considered hypoallergenic and low-to-no-shedding across the board, the more the puppy is crossbred to a Mini Poodle will result in even lower amounts of dander and shedding. F1 generations sometimes exhibit more outward Golden Retriever genetics, which means they may shed more and have longer, straighter hair. Allergy sufferers should consider which crossbred generation is right for them.

What Does a Mini Goldendoodle Look Like?

In short: A wiggly ball of fluff! Unlike the standard Goldendoodle size, an adult Mini Goldendoodle size has a weight range between 15-35 pounds and can stand 17 inches or less. They can grow to be small-to-medium-sized dogs. They may look more like a small Golden Retriever or take on the physical shape more like a Mini Poodle, but one thing is for certain – they sure are cute!

You may assume a Mini Goldendoodle will always be a golden color, right? Wrong! The amazing thing about Mini Goldendoodle genetics is that they come in a range of colors and coat textures thanks to the Mini Poodle side – and yes, even the Golden Retriever side as well.

Golden Retriever colors and sizes

Golden Retrievers, contrary to their name, aren’t all a golden color. In fact, Golden Retrievers can range from a deep mahogany/red color to an almost white, cream color.

In addition, different types of Golden Retrievers have unique body builds. A field Golden Retriever will have a smaller body structure than a conformation Golden Retriever even though they are all the same size. Genetics will play a part in how large or small a Mini Goldendoodle puppy will be.

Mini Poodle colors

Did you know that Mini Poodles come in a variety of 11 standard colors, 16 color combinations, and 4 different markings according to the AKC’s Mini Poodle breed standards

This means according to the genetic lottery, a Mini Goldendoodle can be any one of these colorings and markings between the dizzying array of outcomes from the Mini Poodle side and the different shades of coat colors from the Golden Retriever side.

What’s a Mini Goldendoodle’s Personality Like?

Now that you know what they can look like, you may be wondering about the personalities of Mini Goldendoodle puppies for sale.

A friend to all

One of the most defining characteristics of a Mini Goldendoodle puppies for sale is how they are bred to truly be man’s best friend. And not only just humans – Mini Goldendoodles are also known for getting along with other pets as well.

Smart and keen

Due to traits inherited from both breeds, Mini Goldendoodles are a combination of the two smartest dogs on the planet. Training is a rewarding experience with no warnings of this breed having a reputation for being stubborn, too independent, or too difficult to train.

Loyal

Once Mini Goldendoodles are part of the family, they will never let you down. They can attach themselves to one person or equally be close to the whole family. Bonding with your puppy will be fun and easy due to their loyal personalities.

Eagerness to please

Mini Goldendoodles are known for their eagerness to please humans. This crossbreed's inherent intelligence and trainability make them quick learners and responsive to commands. They thrive on positive reinforcement and enjoy participating in activities that engage their minds and satisfy their desire to please their human companions. Their willingness to please makes them excellent companions and easy to train.

Patient and gentle

Mini Goldendoodles are not considered a skittish breed or an overly hyper breed. Their affectionate personalities are patient and gentle with people, especially children, the elderly, and others. In fact, they make great therapy and emotional support animals due to their gentle and kind nature.

Just make sure to put in the effort to go the extra mile when training your Mini Goldendoodle puppy to bring out and reinforce the best qualities.

Do Mini Goldendoodles Love to Play?

Well, is water wet? All jokes aside, Mini Goldendoodle puppies for sale absolutely love to romp around with you. These dogs often exhibit a playful and energetic nature, and you will never stay bored with a Mini Goldendoodle around because they’re up for anything as long as it’s with you.

Because they are from very active parent breeds, you’ll need to make sure you can devote about 45-60 minutes with your Mini Goldendoodle puppy to meet their exercise needs. And don’t expect to do the same exercise day in and day out – because they are also extremely intelligent, you’ll need to make sure you switch up physical exercise. Mini Goldendoodles love to go on walks, play at the dog park, go on adventures with you, and even go swimming.

You’ll also need to exercise a Mini Goldendoodle’s mind with plenty of interactive games and toys for your puppy to help her problem-solve and gain a sense of accomplishment. Plenty of physical and mental exercise keeps Mini Goldendoodle puppies for sale healthy in all aspects, a winning combination when caring for them during their 13-to-17-year lifespan.

Grooming a Mini Goldendoodle Puppy

Mini Goldendoodle puppies for sale will require a bit more grooming than some other breeds due to the curly nature of their hair. Yes, hair! A Mini Goldendoodle puppy has hair instead of fur that grows just like a human’s, and they need regular haircuts just like we do.

As soon as you bring home your Mini Goldendoodle puppy, you’ll want to start getting her used to having her paws, ears, and other areas touched along with the sound and feel of an electric razor or snippy scissors. Why, you may ask? Because Mini Goldendoodle puppies for sale need regular grooming care, whether you do it yourself or visit a professional.

Keep in mind that your Mini Goldendoodle puppy may take a few slots of time when booking a grooming appointment. This is due to the nature of their curly coats, which must be fully dried after a bath. If you try to cut and style a damp Mini Goldendoodle, you’ll have a harder time due to potential matting.

Speaking of matting, it’s vital that you brush your Mini Goldendoodle every few days with a slicker brush or another tool recommended by your groomer. The curliness of the coat affects how easy it is to form painful mats and tangles.

Different styles and cuts

Mini Goldendoodles can be styled in several ways as preferred by the owner. Depending on where you live, how active you are, your grooming budget, and your puppy’s coat texture and density, people decide on a grooming style relying on many factors.

Some popular style and cut options for your Mini Goldendoodle puppy include:

  1. Puppy Cut: This is a shorter and evenly trimmed cut that keeps the coat fluffy and at a manageable length, often around 1-2 inches all over the body.
  2. Teddy Bear Cut: This style aims to give Mini Goldendoodle puppies a cuddly and teddy bear-like appearance. The body and face are typically trimmed shorter, while the ears and tail are left longer for a more rounded look.
  3. Lamb Cut: This cut leaves the coat longer all over the body, giving a Mini Goldendoodle puppy a fluffy and wooly appearance, resembling that of a lamb.
  4. Schnauzer Cut: Inspired by the grooming style of Schnauzers, this cut involves trimming the body short while leaving longer hair on the eyebrows, beard, and legs. It gives the Mini Goldendoodle a more defined and distinguished look.
  5. Sporting Cut: This style mimics the appearance of a sporting or retriever dog. The coat is trimmed shorter all over the body, keeping it neat and practical for an active lifestyle.

How Popular Are Mini Goldendoodle Puppies For Sale?

According to an assessment of Nationwide Pet Insurance claims of 1.61 million dogs, Goldendoodle ownership was up 347% from 2013-2021. While we don’t know which sizes of Goldendoodles are included in this analysis, what we can infer is Mini Goldendoodles are certainly a coveted hybrid dog breed in high demand during the last decade and will continue to grow in the coming years.

Mini Goldendoodle puppy pictures and silly videos flood social media. It’s easy to find Mini Goldendoodle owner accounts and vlogs about what it’s like to grow up with one of these amazing puppies. From sweet cuddles and massages to silly antics, Mini Goldendoodle puppies on social media are sure to bring a smile to your face. In fact, we’re looking forward to seeing your Pawrade Mini Goldendoodle delighting people around the world on social media!

Why is it Important to Find a Reputable Mini Goldendoodle Dog Breeder?

When looking for “Mini Goldendoodle puppies for sale near me,” you want to take your search seriously and be thoughtful about your final decision. But because they are such popular dogs, you may encounter dishonest people trying to make a quick buck with no regard for the dog's health.

Scammers will take pictures of any doodle and claim it’s a Mini Goldendoodle, but how would you know for sure without a puppy contract and pertinent paperwork? They will oftentimes pilfer other people’s photos on the internet and claim you’re getting a particular dog that looks like some sort of doodle but not be able to provide any proof of breed or parent information. A scammer won’t provide any sort of comprehensive health guarantee, and they may not even have a birthdate for your puppy to tell you how old it is!

Backyard breeders may have actual Mini Goldendoodles, but that doesn’t guarantee much confidence without further research, either. You never can be sure if they are dedicated to upholding standards and providing a loving environment.

Looking to capitalize on the crossover’s popularity, backyard breeders disregard the hard work it takes to thoughtfully breed healthy, robust Mini Goldendoodle puppies for sale. They do not care to breed taking the best standards of both parent breeds. In addition, you’ll lack important genetic information. Without careful parent tracking, you may not even know which generation of Mini Goldendoodle you are getting – important puppy information, indeed!
