A dog wearing a graduation cap and gown

The room is abuzz with excitement as everyone watches the stage waiting for the Big Event to begin. You’ve made so many sacrifices to be here, and you wouldn’t miss it for the world! As you crane your neck to see your graduate who was once so tiny prance across the stage to the tune of Pup and Circumstance, your heart swells with pride. He is on his best behavior, walking nicely in line to receive the diploma he worked so hard for, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

The moment is here! Your canine “child” crosses the stage to get his puppy kindergarten diploma! You are so proud that your heart could burst! All the ruff patches you went through together were all worth it as your little pup is ready to be fully immersed in society as a Good Boy.

It’s graduation season for schools across the nation, from preschool to PhD programs. Yearbooks have been passed around with thoughtful messages of dear times together penned with love and laughter. Another section of note in a yearbook is the Senior Superlative section, where classmates vote on awards to be given to students celebrating their unique qualities.

Puppy kindergarten classes should give out superlatives! Let’s see which dog breed would win a puppy superlative based on characteristics and achievements.

Puppy Kindergarten Graduation Superlatives

Class superlatives aim to recognize outstanding qualities from individuals who exemplify the essence of the category the best. From Most Pupular to Fanciest Hairstyle, puppy superlatives showcase the diversity of different dog breeds.

Most Pupular - French Bulldog

The coveted title of Most Pupular was a triumphant win for the second year in a row with our winner, knocking out the dog breed expected to win based on previous years’ nominations. The winner this year goes to the French Bulldog again! According to the AKC’s most popular dog breeds, the French Bulldog ousted the Labrador Retriever as America’s most registered AKC dog breed after 31 years of Labrador Retrievers holding the title.

While both dog breeds are amazing, French Bulldogs are playful, mischievous, and love to make their owners laugh. With their larger-than-life personalities, large, bat-like ears, and affection for their families, it’s no wonder these lovable dogs are exploding in popularity. They’re up for going on adventures but can be little couch potatoes, perfect for people who want a well-rounded canine companion.

Most Dramatic - Siberian Husky

Our next doggy superlative goes to the Siberian Husky, a dog breed that loves to star as the main character in every theater performance. They’ve rightfully earned this award with their dramatic personality. Siberian Huskies will let you know their opinion of something as if they are holding a full conversation with you, whether he’s expressing his indignation or excitement. A Siberian Husky will certainly make his feelings known for everyone to hear. Be prepared for a chorus of noise if two or more are present!

Several social media accounts capture Huskies’ antics for everyone to enjoy, often translating what they are “saying” with captions. Overall, Siberian Huskies are friendly, social dogs that love being a part of a pack of other dogs and human companions. They are built to haul heavy loads long distances and are built for endurance, stamina, and speed, so Husky owners will need to make sure they provide enough exercise and mental stimulation to prevent naughty behavior.

Biggest Flirt - Labrador Retriever

Who’s the dog breed that always has a smile on their face and can’t decide who they love the most? A Labrador Retriever! These social dogs love everyone, including other dogs, kids, neighbors, friends, and strangers, and always have a happy demeanor and show a zest for life. Labrador Retrievers won’t hesitate to approach anyone because they view everyone as potential best friends. Labrador Retrievers will easily capture anyone’s heart with their wide, open-mouth smile and enthusiasm for life. They rightfully held the #1 spot on the AKC’s Most Popular Dog Breed list for 31 years for valid reasons!

Not only are Labrador Retrievers friendly, but they are also incredibly intelligent and eager to please. Labrador Retrievers make excellent service dogs helping all sorts of people, from guiding the visually impaired to assisting in search and rescue efforts. As a versatile working and family dog, Labrador Retrievers are the total package wrapped up in an energetic, friendly dog that doesn’t know a stranger.

Most Moxie - Miniature Dachshund

Of course, the winner of the Most Moxie award would go to a Doxie! Don’t tell these long, short dogs that their personalities are way bigger than they are! Having moxie means being full of determination, courage, energy, and enthusiasm – all traits that perfectly describe Mini Dachshunds. Originally bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals, the Mini Dachshund won’t back down with its tenacious and brave personality.

Mini Dachshunds are spunky and curious, a combination of traits that can get them into trouble and hilarious situations. At only 6 inches tall and twice as long, Mini Dachshunds come in quite a variety with smooth or shorthaired, wirehaired, or longhaired coats and in several colors and patterns. You’ve never sausage a dog!

Class Sweetheart - Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels will capture your heart the moment they look straight into your soul with their round eyes and gentle expressions. They love being companion lap dogs and want to do everything you do. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are eager to please their owners and a breeze to train, unlike stubborn or independent dogs. Their sweet, mellow nature and warm temperament attract all sorts of puppy owners who are looking for a lifelong companion dog.

Cavaliers love playtime, whether it’s fetching a ball, solving puzzle toys, or romping around with children. They’re surprisingly athletic and enjoy walks, trips to the dog park, or even agility courses. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels thrive as therapy dogs due to their soft disposition, excellent behavior, and ability to love anyone who gives them a scratch behind their long, silky ears.

Biggest Foodie - Pug

You might think a bigger dog with a larger stomach would win the Biggest Foodie award, so the recipient may surprise you. The Pug is one of the most food-motivated dogs in the canine kingdom. Whether you’re eating a piece of cheese or a full-course dinner, the Pug will be right by your side looking up at you with those protruding, pleading round eyes. They know they’re cute, so they will look mournful, whine, and bark at a chance for just a tiny morsel.

However, you will be resistant to their foodie charm because you know that Pugs can become overweight easily due to humans feeding them more than their recommended diet, and let’s face it – they’re excellent at begging. Despite their begging, limit your Pug to just a few healthy dog treats for Pugs linked to a reason to earn one rather than feeding them table scraps when they try their irresistible charm techniques on you!

Most Vocal - Beagle

There are some quiet dogs that barely make a snuffle, let alone bark. However, the Beagle is not one of those pups! Beagles do not limit themselves to just barking. Beagles express quite a range of vocalizations when they howl, bay, growl, sigh, and make other hilarious noises. They love “telling” you all about it! As hunting dogs, they love the pursuit of a scent and will bay in excitement.

However, don’t think a Beagle is a disgruntled dog – quite the opposite! Beagles are sweet, people-oriented dogs that love being a member of the pack. Beagles love playing with children and other dogs. They’re always up for a fun time, especially going on adventures outside where they can sniff to their heart’s content. Keep them on a leash so they don’t bolt after something interesting.

Most Likely to Run Away and Join the Circus - Bichon Frise

Many owners like to dress up their Bichon Frise puppies in cute outfits, but every Bichon Frise owner should own a tiny clown costume or sparkling leotard in case she wants to run away and join the circus. Historically, Bichon Frise dogs performed in traveling circuses in the late 1700s in France after losing their favor with royalty due to the French Revolution. These lively, easily trained dogs were taught to wow crowds with acrobatics, dancing on their hind legs, and other fan favorites.

Today, you won’t see Bichon Frises in street circuses except for a few shows, but perhaps they want to relive the glory days of their past by trading in their small puffer vests for a fabulous circus performer’s outfit. Their white, curly hypoallergenic coats mean no other circus members with allergies will sneeze and ruin their act.

Class Clown - Boxer

You can’t help but burst into laughter by merely glancing at a Boxer. With their snub noses, prominent underbites, droopy jowls, and eyes that always look guilty of something, Boxers are a beloved, playful family dog. Boxers are always getting into shenanigans and making their owners laugh, whether they mean to or not.

Boxers remain like puppies for longer than other dogs, and it shows through in their goofy personalities and clownish antics. Boxer owners know there will never be a dull moment in the house! Their boundless energy means there is no shortage of silly moments. They do well in households that also have a healthy sense of humor and enough time to devote to keeping them out of trouble through plenty of exercise and limiting opportunities for mischief.

Best Gentleman - Boston Terrier

Boston Terriers are dapper pups with their tuxedo looks, always ready for a formal party or hanging out at home. They have the nickname “The American Gentleman” due to their status as a truly native dog to the United States. Like a true gentleman, they are polite, lively, and people-oriented. Boston Terriers have great manners and make wonderful apartment neighbors due to their small size and relatively quiet nature.

With their comical bat-like ears and cute, smooshed faces, Boston Terriers are known for their bursts of energy and affectionate nature with their families. Boston Terriers are an all-around great choice for a variety of living situations and households, being a steady companion for individuals or a beloved family pet.

Biggest Brainiac

Many puppy owners think their dog is the smartest in the room, but which dog breed consistently ranks at the top of the list? Congratulations to the Border Collie! Not only are they extremely athletic and talented in their herding abilities, but they are also consistently ranked #1 in the top smartest dog breeds lists.

Dogs show intelligence in three areas according to neuropsychology and cognition researcher Stanley Coren: Working and obedience, instinctive, and adaptive intelligence. A Border Collie excels in all three areas. One famous Border Collie considered the smartest dog to ever live was Chaser, a dog who learned to understand simple sentences and identify 1,000 different objects. In contrast, a dog with average or above average intelligence caps out around 160-250.

Border Collies do best when given a job to do, and they need to have plenty of outlets for their incredible energy level and those brains going a mile a minute. The best home for a Border Collie is one that recognizes its intense need for both physical exercise and mental stimulation for a happy, healthy Border Collie.

Fanciest Hairstyles

Poodles have a reputation for incredibly elaborate haircuts, especially in the show ring. Groomers take painstaking care to make Poodles catch the eye of discerning judges at dog shows, and owners have a choice of acceptable styles. The most common style we think of when we hear the word “Poodle” is a Continental Clip, an elaborate cut that retains puffs on the hips, legs, and tail with a full mane and topknot and the remaining areas closely shaved. They can also have an English Saddle clip for dog show competitions. Other more practical Poodle hairstyles for everyday wear include the puppy, summer, town and country, lamb, and teddy bear clips along with many others – so many choices!

While it’s true they can have elaborate haircuts, a Poodle is more than just those pompoms and sculpted hair. Under all that frill is a whole lot of thrill! Poodles are athletic, versatile, and extremely intelligent, often ranking as the #2 smartest dog breed in the world. Whether you have a Toy Poodle, a Mini Poodle, or a Standard Poodle, this dog breed has many uses other than just Man’s Best Friend. They are utilized as guide and service dogs and can even detect medical issues such as cancer and oncoming seizures based on the scent of chemical changes in the body.
